I looked everywhere for an aluminum bottle that DID NOT have a lid that screws into the inside of the bottle’s mouth. Why? Well, the main reason I wanted to switching to a non-plastic bottle is to avoid the ingestion of the phthalates that are in plastic. However, if the bottle has a plastic lid that screws on, the friction causes tiny particles of plastic to rub off. If the lid screws inside the bottle, those particles fall right into your beverage and are ingested in potentially large amounts. This is why a lid that screws on the outside is so much better. The plastic particles are on the outside and if a straw is used, fewer particles of plastic would be ingested. I know, straws are made of plastic, but the exposure is minimal.
The Burton bottle is great!

I use this to mainly take milk to work for my morning cereal. I can usually get two mornings worth out of it, with enough left over for a bit of milk for my coffee on both mornings to boot.
I also have another bottle from another manufacturer with the more common, smaller opening. Once you get used to the wide opening like this one has you will not want to go back to the other design. It pours without dribbling all down the side, is easy to drink out of, and very easy to clean without the need for a special brush. I have never had a problem with it leaking during transport, either.
It has a lining inside to prevent any aluminum taste, which works. They state that this lining is BPA-free, which I will take their word for.
I got it for a good price here on Amazon and could not be happier. This is the only design I will buy from now on.

I’ve been a faithful recycler but I knew I could cut back on plastic even more. I got this bottle to replace the plastic bottles I’d buy by the flat for long distance travel or outdoor work, and the disposable cups at the office water cooler. Glad I did it. This has many good points: 1) size, 2) a clip that makes snapping it onto a belt loop or a purse strap easy, 3) it is attractive, 4) it has a wide mouth that makes it easy to fill with ice water and to clean–I’m lousy at getting all the suds out of narrow-necked bottles. I don’t really taste the metal–I still remember those colorful aluminum ice-tea glasses from my childhood and how they tasted, and this is far, far less offensive. My one complaint–the reason why I’ve nicked a star off the rating–is that the opening is slightly awkward, still a tad narrow and the rubber threads for the screw top take some getting used to when you sip from the rim. I have yet to use it on a long trip in the car while driving. It may impede vision more than the old plastic did when I raised it for a swig and I may be inviting major dribbles from the wide mouth opening. I’ll just drink from it when the car is not in motion.

So I’ll keep this brief…
If you want a metal, orange, 1 Liter Bottle, this is THE bottle for you.
If you are concerned about BPA and the environment, I can’t help you. I don’t have a clue if this one is any good at that.
However, it DOES hold just about ANYTHING. From Hot Chocolate (burn your hands) to Ice Water to Orange Juice to (supposedly because I don’t use the stuff) alcoholic drinks.
Notes: It DOES use a plastic/enamel coating inside, but you can’t taste it. It is NOT antibiotic – you WILL regret leaving fruit juice in it overnight… so Just clean up after yourself OR keep a lot of efferdent tabs around.

Overall a good water bottle at a great price. I especially like the fact that the thread is outside for the same reason that the other reviewer mentioned. However, I do find that the lid has to be closed tightly, if not it will leak quite easily. Another complain I have is that I can taste the metallic taste. Otherwise, a good bottle.
Just to inform other people, the 1 liter bottle I have does not fit into my car’s bottle holder. The base is pretty big.
