These are the same exact filters sold by Sears for use in their high-end Kenmore Elite's (built by LG in 2005). I compared build, quality, part number, and packaging. However, when I purchased them they were about half the price compared to sears (I bought a two-pack). <br /> <br />Installation is via a simple twist-lock method. So, if you are replacing the filter for the first time, simply push and twist to remove and push and twit to install. Do not call Sears to do this. They charge a significant fee. For those who have a whole house water filtration system, or an inline (to refrigerator) filtration system (I use a Culligan good water reverse osmosis), the filters should last TWICE as long at the least. I have had many people argue that I do not need a water filter at the refrigerator if I have another system in place. I disagree. I like the idea of a backup in case of equipment failure. For those who might be curious, purchasing these instead of the Sears-packaged version saved only about $5 per filter. Not much, but also saved driving to nearest Sears store.
