Nearly 90% of homes in the civilised world have electricity. It is something that we take for granted every day of our live and yet it is one of most influential components of our home. It provides our heating, cooking and entertainment systems with the juice they need to work. It really does make our lives livable but even so, many people don’t take any time to make sure its all in order.
How much time have you ever set aside making sure every cable is in order and understanding what leads to where? Malfunctioning, damage and even injury can all occur if they are not maintained properly.
For the the central electrics in your home you should map out diagram of the system, showing where your major supply points and switches are and where the cables lie. This will save you hours of time and worry when your next electrical issue arises. It will save any contractors a lot of time also. It can also prevent you from wasting lots of time and money repairing your home when you go to do some DIY and hit something behind the wall such as low smoke zero halogen cable. To check there are no such hazards hiding behind the plasterboard you can use something called a stud detector.
For exposed cables such as those at the back of computers and entertainment systems, you should use heavy duty cable ties which work to bind even the largest cable for the rail industry together in an ordered fashion and prevent them getting tangled. If you want to exactly where each cable goes, you can even colour code them with different coloured electrical tape. It may seem like a bit of drag to carry out these tasks now but you will thank yourself each and every time you save money and hours in future. They will also save you a lot of stress and headaches. Let your electrical components do what they are supposed to do, and not get in the way of your life.
